Gambling is defined as making a wager or bet in the hopes of gaining money or goods for your winnings. Games that are often wagered on include horse racing, card games such as poker, bingo, slot machines, lottery etc. casinos exclusively offer a wide array of gambling options that are considered highly addictive in nature and many patrons go into financial ruin after losing their monies there.
Gambling is popular throughout the world, and many countries have different regulations about it. Countries like Antigua and Barbuda, Costa Rica, Australia, Russia as well as Israel, all have different regulations about gaming and setting up gaming establishments. Some allow only a specific type of gambling, whether lotteries, or horse racing. However, there are countries like the United States of America that strictly prohibit online gaming. For many they justify that not being able to control different means of corruption like money laundering as the reason. Some strictly ban the practice for religious reasons.
The laws of Singapore are very stringent when it comes to gambling. They allow few gambling practices in their country. Only betting on horse racing, football and lottery is allowed. Gambling has existed in Singapore for many years, this according to their Law Gazette. In past years the revenue from gambling was used to support and maintain the police force. Gambling is however now governed by the Singapore Totalisator Board. The laws of Singapore support the Board, as people cannot legally wager or bet on any sporting, or gaming activity or horse racing, unless the activity is put on by the Singapore Totalisator Board. No private gambling ventures are allowed. Neither is any marketing or advertising allowed for any local, national or international entities. The laws and acts of Singapore do not allow anyone, local, resident, citizen or visitor to gamble in private or in public. The Betting Act and The Common Gaming House Act were installed to govern these regulations.
The act of online gambling is not as clear as other gambling practises in Singapore. It can be interpreted that as the other kinds or gambling are not allowed then online gambling is also forbidden. It can also be looked at that the infrequent game is permissible; on the other hand, if it is continued for an extended period of time then it might be against their laws or acts. Due to the strict nature of their policies along with the regulations, if such a case is taken to court; the court might find in favour of the rules of land. They might take the option that online or internet cafes and gaming sites are actually public domain. Therefore to be safe, do not gamble online in Singapore.
